A Japanese blogger is seen here playing the Wii U on a bullet train on the way to work. While not exactly meant as a portable console, certain games can be played directly on the gamepad, with the console able to be plugged into a power supply on the train. He even used a mobile phone to start a wi-fi hotspot for those all important Miiverse status updates.

Historically, video-game-themed movies and adaptations are the second-class citizens of cinema, frowned upon by critics and audiences alike. But “Wreck-It Ralph” worked. Last weekend, it became the biggest opening for Walt Disney Animation ever, topping the box office with $49.1 million. Neuroscience may cure video-games industry’s obsession with guns! Leading developer, Chris Stevens, tells Edge magazine that neuroscience researchers will soon find “non-violent triggers to mimic the rush of pleasure gamers feel when firing guns”.
Over one-third of gamers now prefer digital downloads.
Buisness group NPD has released research showing that 35% of people who bought a game in the past three months would prefer to buy a digital download over a physical copy. That’s up 10 percentage points from 25% this time last year.
Meanwhile a boss at EA has gone on record to say that the company is aiming to become a “100% digital company”. While not giving an exact timeline, he indicates that it won’t be before consumers are ready, but is likely to be sooner than expected.
